Air Purification: Myths Vs Facts

Air Purification: Myths Vs Facts

Myth – Split Air Conditioners bring in the outdoor air.

Fact - Split Air conditioners do not bring in any outdoor air. They re-circulate the indoor air and are responsible for absorbing heat from indoors.

Myth - The heat pipe attached with the outdoor unit brings in outdoor air inside the home/office.

Fact– In the home/office, which uses a split system, the heat is absorbed into the fluid (refrigerant) in the evaporator (indoor coil) and then the heat is released from the refrigerant in the condenser (outdoor coil). The outdoor unit’s job is to release the heat outside. Its main operational purpose of cooling the air in your home is not achieved by moving cool air inside, but by moving unwanted heat out.

Myth – The air purification units will affect the room temperature in peak summers and winters.

Fact – From the various studies, it has been established that even without any fresh air unit, approximately 10% of fresh air comes indoors through leakages and ventilations such as exhaust fans, kitchen chimneys, etc.

To maintain the positive pressure, our machines throw in 13-14% fresh air inside your house/office, considering that there is only a slight increase in the fresh air intake and with the help of existing air conditioners the desired temperature difference can easily be achieved.

The difference of 3-4% will not make any significant temperature difference if we continue to use the existing air conditioners and the Camfil air cleaner unit at the right temperature and speed settings respectively.

However, if needed, one small extension can be added to the machine. The extension will have a heater and thermostat to heat the fresh air before it’s induced indoors.

Also, in the centralized air conditioning systems such as Air Handling Units (AHU), there is an intake of 10-15% fresh air. These systems can easily maintain a certain level of desired temperature as per the occupant's comfort.

Thus, it is absolutely possible to achieve the desired temperature while using an air cleaner unit and your existing air conditioner.

Myth – When outdoor air pollution levels are high, running the air cleaner machine at 4x or 5x speed will be more effective to counter the air pollution.

Fact – There is no relation between the outdoor pollution levels and air cleaner speed settings. Hence the performance of the machine and filtration efficiency will not be affected if the speed is set at 1x or 5x.

The purpose of the speed controller is to control the air flow/velocity. The speed controller is provided for different applications to combat all kinds of air quality challenges at various levels.

Example – If there is a house party going on with a large number of people or if the doors/windows are being opened frequently, you will have to set the machine at a higher speed to maintain the desired CO2 levels and fresh air inside the house.

Similarly, in a crowded gym, we need to run the machine at different speed settings.

The air cleaner machine is manufactured to counter the challenges of different applications.

We can increase the speed to maintain more positive pressurization but it’s nowhere related to the air filtration efficiency.

Myth - Air cleaner machines will blow in a lot of air and have higher noise levels.

Fact - The air cleaner machine has a German-made EC fan, which is ultra-silent. The machine does not make much noise (it’s less than 65 dB even at a higher speed setting) and has gentle air flow levels.

Myth – Installation will require civil work.

Fact – Civil work is not always required. It depends upon the availability of space/feasibility for a smooth installation of the machine.

The installation work is done by professional artisans and does not create much disturbance to the occupants.

We offer three options for installation:

1. The wall is punctured with the help of core cutting to make a circular hole of 152 mm (6 inches) to help connect the machine’s outlet and allow the introduction of purified fresh air into the house/office.

2. We use the windowpane to induce fresh air into the house/office.

3. This option has zero civil work and we can install the machine without puncturing the wall or changing the windowpane. We simply use an acrylic sheet in the window to introduce the fresh air.

Myth – The air cleaner machine will consume high power.

Fact – The air cleaner’s power consumption is 28 W only, which is equivalent to one ceiling fan.

Myth – I already have standalone air purifiers at my home/office, then why do I need an additional air cleaner?

Fact – The standalone air purifiers clean the air by re-circulating the indoor air. However, if there is any leakage from outside through doors or windows and if any exhaust fans and chimneys run, the polluted air enters the house/office again making the indoor air polluted.

Therefore, these purifiers are not able to achieve the desired AQI level always, especially during the times of high levels of air pollution.

Our air cleaner machine will create positive pressure, which in turn will help improve indoor air quality because air contaminants are forced out of the space and no contaminated air can infiltrate from outside.

The benefits, our air cleaner machine provides will always outweigh the modest limitations if any.
